Toned Up Tuesdays at CityCenter DC

Washington DCPosted by Kacy

18 Apr

When the point of your “side hustle” is to eat as much food as possible so you can write about it, fitness becomes incredibly important. Unfortunately, since moving to Petworth and letting go of my beloved gym membership my workouts have become few and far between. I always try to walk as much as possible, but unless I’m in a class setting it’s hard to push myself to do much more.  To combat that, I’ve been trying to incorporate exercise into my social gatherings with friends to amp up the motivation and fun levels. When I heard about Toned Up Tuesdays at CityCenter, I knew I had to give it a shot.

Toned Up Tuesdays features free a free yoga class from CorePower Yoga at The Park at CityCenter. My friend Lauren joined me last Tuesday for a healthy lady date, and it couldn’t have been more lovely.
yoga dateI was shocked at the huge size of the crowd (according to CityCenter’s Instagram, there were over 300 yogis in attendance) and impressed at how organized and well-managed the class was. Classes start at 6 pm, although ours didn’t get going until around ten after. The class on this particular evening was a straight forward Vinyasa format that got my heart pumping. It was an amazing feeling flowing with so many people. There was a beautiful breeze that night, and I felt very at peace at the end of the class.
Of course, we had to fuel up after getting our sweat on so we headed to nearby Fruitive for a healthy dinner.
Fruitive CityCenter DCTom joined us for this juncture of the evening, and though he originally balked at the lack of meat and cheese on the menu he was quickly won over by his PB No J superberry bowl with almond milk, banana, acai and peanut butter topped with granola, banana and cacao nibs.
PB no JLauren and I both ordered salads, and agreed that while fresh and healthy, they could have been better. I much prefer Sweetgreen to these salad offerings, but appreciated all the greens.

We ended the night with a walk around the lovely CityCenter, before heading home for an early bedtime. It was the quintessential healthy and happy night, and one I can’t wait to repeat very soon.
