What We'll Miss Most About Navy Yard

Washington DCPosted by Kacy

16 Feb

Our time in Navy Yard is quickly coming to a close. As much as I love to move around and experience new places, I tend to get very nostalgic about the places I leave behind. It’s no secret that we’ve absolutely loved our time in this neighborhood, and if rent prices hadn’t increased so much since we moved here a mere 18 months ago we’d likely have stayed a while longer. Here’s a quick list of our favorite things to do in Navy Yard, and what we’ll miss most.

Friday Nights and Festivals

Things to do in Navy Yard
One of the most enticing things about Navy Yard is the abundance of fun, free events. I can’t even count the number of times I was walking home from the gym and stumbled upon a concert or festival of some sort. These family and dog friendly events are 100% the best thing about this area and I will no doubt return on Friday nights and weekends as often as possible to take advantage of the festivities. Check out The Yards website to keep up with future events.

Free Wine Tastings at Harry’s Reserve

Harry’s Reserve is another reason we love Fridays in Navy Yard. They offer free wine tastings every weekend, and we stop in as often as possible for the chance to taste new wines and pick up a bottle or two for the weekend. The shop’s owner, Greg, is friendly and helpful and always quick to recommend a bottle of wine to go with our dinner. If you live in the area, I highly recommend stopping in for a tasting and then signing up for their weekly newsletter to keep up with the weekly wine tastings and specials. Our favorite tastings come from Robert with RWK Imports. He only imports Italian wines and always has something new and exciting.

Walks Along the River

I know, I am painfully redundant on this subject. But I truly cannot express how wonderful it’s been to have such a lovely little waterfront for evening and weekend walks with the dog. It’s been such a good stress reliever and I will miss it so much. Hopefully we can find somewhere just as peaceful near our new apartment.

Bluejacket

We’ll miss all the restaurants in Navy Yard, but I think the one we’ll pine for the most will be Bluejacket, which is odd because I’ve never actually written a formal review on it. I think that’s because we rarely go and sit down for a full meal. Instead, it’s our go to spot when we want a drink and some snacks on a dog friendly patio. Service is almost always perfect, and the chicken wings are quite possibly the best in the district.

Easy Access to Eastern Market & Barracks Row

Okay, so we haven’t been to Pineapple and Pearls yet (except for coffee), but in every other way we’ve made the most of living within a short walk of the bustling Eastern Market/Barracks Row scene. Weekend strolls to the market, breakfast at Market Lunch and happy hours galore kept us returning to the area over and over again.

Thanks for the memories, Navy Yard! We’ll be back every chance we get.
