Summer Has Arrived at Blackwall Hitch

Food & Drink· Restaurant Reviews· Virginia· Washington DCPosted by Kacy

16 May

A trip to Alexandria, Virginia always feels a little bit like a mini vacation – and any mini vacation I can take on a Monday evening is perfect in my book.
Founders Park AlexandriaWe had the opportunity last week to visit Blackwall Hitch on the Alexandria waterfront for a taste of their new summer menu items.
Alexandria, VA waterfrontEven though our weather has been eternally fickle lately, summer is right around the corner. But if you just can’t wait, Blackwall Hitch has a new lineup of fruit-filled Dockside Lemonades that taste like summer in a glass.
Blackwall Hitch Dockside Lemonade
mango lemonadeWe enjoyed sipping on watermelon and mango lemonades with Deep Eddy lemon vodka. They were a lovely accompaniment to the light, fresh fare offered on the updated menu. We were really excited to try the new Blackwall Hitch exclusive house oyster, the Blackwall Beauty, harvested from Assateague Island.
Blackwall Beauties oystersThe oysters take their name from the wild horses that run on Assateague Island, and of course the famous fictional horse Black Beauty. These oysters are my favorite type, small and packed with fresh salt water, briny goodness. They are even better with a pipette of mango mignonette on top!
Of course, it’s not summer without tons of fresh seafood. Tom had fun trying his first crawfish (and then several more). As picky as I am about shellfish, I even had a bite – and didn’t hate it!

flaming crab dipYou know Blackwall Hitch is going to cover all of the seafood bases. There’s also a tempting flaming crab dip (above), a new soft shell crab sandwich up for grabs, along with rockfish and branzino. For meat lovers, the cowboy steak is sure to please – and fill up even the hungriest of diners.
ribeyeNot surprisingly, I was most enamored with the fruit and vegetable-centric items like this beautiful ahi tuna salad.

If you’d like to get a taste of the new items for yourself and take in the beautiful views along the Alexandria waterfront to boot, head to A Bubbly Affair on Wednesday, May 31st from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as Blackwall Hitch debuts their exclusive house oyster – the Blackwall Beauty. The delicious oysters will be paired with Ruffino Prosecco and other small bites in the Crow’s Nest at Blackwall Hitch, which offers expansive water views. Tickets are $40 and include entrance to the event and three tickets which can be redeemed for a half-dozen oysters, a glass of Prosecco, special cocktails/beers, oyster shooters and select small plates. Additional tickets can be purchased for $5 each. Ruffino Prosecco will also available by the bottle and half bottle. Don’t miss it!
Thanks to Blackwall Hitch for hosting us at the summer menu preview. As always, all opinions are 100% our own.
