Maryland’s Eastern Shore holds a lot of special memories for us. Right after Tom proposed, we took off for a weekend in an adorable Airbnb in off-the-radar Deale, Maryland. Our engagement photos were taken in gorgeous St. Michaels, and we later returned for a romantic off-season getaway for Valentine’s Day. Of course, the most memorable experience of all was our dream-come-true wedding on Kent Island. Since then, we’ve made several shorter trips back up to the shore including an icy, but beautiful weekend on Tilghman Island. We just can’t get enough of the area. So we were thrilled to have the opportunity to head down to the shore for a quick St. Michaels getaway over Memorial Day Weekend.
This time we were there with our good friend Lauren, who graciously hosted us at her house, complete with some of the most lovely and peaceful views you can imagine.
We had big plans for a day of bar and restaurant hopping in St. Michael’s super cute downtown area. Although we’ve been to St. Michaels several times, we’ve never actually been during peak season. It was exciting to be in town during the bustling days of summer.
Our first stop was to Gina’s Cafe, a fun, quirky little place serving delicious food with a Southwest flair. Strong margaritas and the tropical shrimp tacos kicked the trip into high gear.
Unfortunately, mid-marg action the floodgates opened up as a torrential downpour settled in for the day. A bit of a bummer, but we quickly rallied by heading back to the house for what ended up as a perfect day. Waterfront rosé and a variety of games made for a fun way to fill the afternoon.
The next morning started off a bit dreary, but slowly and surely the sun started to peek out from behind the clouds.
We had a long chat over coffee on the patio while watching the rescue of a boat that had grounded in shallow water overnight. Never a dull moment on the shore! Later on, we headed out for brunch at Foxy’s Harbor Grill.
We were excited to eat some classic Maryland fare. The crab pretzel was a must, and Tom and Lauren both enjoyed their soft shell crab sandwiches. For something a little lighter, the tuna poke was the perfect harbor side snack.
Thanks again to Lauren for hosting us for a perfect, low-key weekend getaway. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to the beautiful Eastern Shore.
Those Bloody Mary servings are something to be desired! Yum!
