Last weekend we took a trip to New Jersey to visit Tom’s family. We had an amazing time catching up with everyone and spending quality time together. Before heading home, we were able to sneak in a morning at the beach. It was my very first time visiting the Jersey Shore. Tom grew up in the area and was excited to show me the place where he once created many happy childhood memories.
There are many beaches to choose from on the Jersey Shore, but we ultimately decided on Point Pleasant beach based on the ease of the drive and its popular boardwalk.
I really didn’t know what to expect from this experience. I knew that it wouldn’t exactly be a scene from that horrible MTV show, but people do tend to make jokes about the Jersey Shore.
What surprised me the most about Point Pleasant beach was how clean it was. Sure, it was very crowded but there was hardly any litter anywhere and the vibe was decidedly more family friendly than fist-pumping-party. I suppose it’s all about which beach you choose?
We were able to get a nice stretch of sand to ourselves to sit and enjoy the waves, although it was far too hot to stay out of the water for very long.
I’m usually too high maintenance to get into the ocean on the East Coast since it’s so cold. But the heat dome will make you do crazy things, and we spent almost our entire time frolicking in the waves. It made me feel like a kid again. We had to tear ourselves out of the water and onto dry land.
We couldn’t leave without a little boardwalk action. We’d worked up a major appetite swimming, so we ducked into Boardwalk Bar and Grill.
Jersey beers and an order of coconut shrimp hit the spot, but the best thing on the menu was actually the beach views from the rooftop dining area.
No trip to a boardwalk is complete with a gut-busting fried item of some kind. Tom has been craving a funnel cake for months now, and finally got to indulge.
Although we wore ourselves out in the sun and had a long drive home staring us down, we had so much fun spending a few hours by the sea. I have a feeling this is only the first of many future trips to the shore.

I’m not sure what I love more, funnel cake or this adorable pic of you two. (Obvi the latter.)
Beach Haus beer sounds like an interesting drink! Jersey based craft brewery, right?
Yes! I am hoping we’ll get a chance to visit a Jersey brewery sometime soon!
New Jersey is packed with dozens and dozens of fabulous destinations that offer fun, exciting and entertaining attractions for all members of the family.
