The Perfect Scoop: Moorenko’s Ice Cream

Food & Drink· Washington DCPosted by Tom

17 Sep

I have many culinary vices and weaknesses that I can almost never turn down. These include fried chicken, Belgian waffles, churros and burgers just to name a few. However, I would have to say that good ice cream would definitely take the top spot amongst these can’t miss items. No matter my mood or the situation I am in, or how full I may or may not be, I can always go for the creamy and sweet indulgence of ice cream.
Moorenko's Ultra-Premium Ice CreamAs a certified ice cream addict, I am always on the look out for the best and most satisfying scoop I can get my hands on. This leads me to Moorenko’s Ice Cream.

Moorenko’s Ultra-Premium Ice Cream

Located in Silver Spring, Maryland, this family owned ice cream shop is all about quality and perfecting the craft of ice cream making. They were founded by Susan Soorenko in 2002, with the goal of creating ice cream that she “could feed her children, without reservations”. She studied under renowned ice cream experts in New York and a master gelato maker in Italy. The result is a line-up of purely decadent ice cream flavors that are perfectly rich, dense and creamy.

The Taste Test

But enough about labels and the process behind the ice cream. Let’s talk about what’s most important: eating it. Like any respectable food blogger, I conducted a thorough taste-testing to see what this ultra-premium business was all about. The results brought two main things to light. 1) there is no such thing as “too much ice cream”. And 2) there is no doubt this ice cream qualifies as being amongst the best of the best.

Where to Find Moorenko’s

Moorenko’s brick and mortar shop is right in DC’s backyard in Silver Spring. Even better, Moorenko’s is available at 19 grocery stores and counting in the district. You can be sure my freezer will be fully stocked at all times for when those ice cream cravings hit.
