Another stop we made after our OBX trip last weekend, after visiting The Dog & Oyster, was for more fabulous oysters at Merroir Rappahannock Oyster Co. in Topping, Virginia.
This quaint little spot, situated on the Rappahannock River, is part of the aptly named Rappahannock Oyster Co. which also has restaurants in Richmond, VA and Washington DC. The winemaker at Dog & Oyster recommended it to us, and we were so glad he did. We arrived during happy hour, and enjoyed some cheap eats and of course, oysters.
We got a half dozen Old Salts on the half shell, far and away my favorite local oyster. They are both sweet and perfectly briny, and just the right size. Merroir’s mignonette, my oyster topping of choice – no horseradish ever – was especially tasty and refreshing on a gorgeous, warm Fall day. (I would like that weather back now, please.)
We took in one more peaceful water view before loading back up in the car to return to the real world in DC. A wonderful end to a wonderful weekend.
There is nothing quite like slurping down some oysters while you relax!
I am jealous of your rock clbiimng adventure! I love clbiimng (although I am at an extreme beginner level) and I can’t wait for the next time I get to go.I always find that when I leave my comfort zones I learn the most about myself. I call them waterfalls. When I have conquered something in my life I always sense the need to throw myself off another waterfall; I know that at the bottom, and in the fall there will be something more of me.
“These trips aren’t about seeing sights, but about seeing people.” <– I feel the same way about my trips to Atlanta. I just want to soak up every minute I can with the people I love. 🙂
Glad you had a great trip!
I love the Frankenstein’s lab decorations! Haha, houses or businesses that go all out are my favorite. Sounds like you had a fun trip despite it being short.
The settings looks lovely, with the picnic tables and right by the water. I’ve actually never tried oysters before… I just don’t eat a lot of seafood and am really picky about it. Maybe I should bite the bullet and try them if I’m ever in the area!
I’m really picky about seafood also, but I LOVE oysters, which is odd considering how gross they look 🙂
