What To Do in DC for Labor Day Weekend

Washington DCPosted by Kacy

4 Sep

If you’re traveling to DC for the holiday, or a resident who couldn’t score a trip to the beach, there’s plenty of fun to be had in the district this Labor Day weekend.

This is not your typical DC itinerary. You know about the monuments and the museums, but if you want to go beyond the ordinary, here’s a list of delicious and mostly budget-friendly ways to live it up in DC, holiday style.

Friday

Get your BBQ on. I plan to hit the grill at least once over the long weekend, but there are also a number of great restaurants that will do all of the work for you. Pick up meat and sides by the pound at The BBQ Joint in Union Market or head to brand new Due South for a mouth-watering dinner for zero effort.

Saturday

Take a day trip to Virginia Wine Country. Here are 8 Great Wineries in nearby Loudoun County to check out. Or keep going toward Front Royal for mountain views, and more great wine. If you’re in the mood for a festival, Epicurience is this weekend as well, featuring famous chefs, food and wine.
Virginia Wine CountryCheck out Dino’s Grotto for their Anti-Restaurant Week special. Dino’s is always a great meal, but even better when it’s a great deal. Now through September 10th, their offering ten courses for $35 with drink flight options averaging around $15. I recommend dining in the Grotto Bar downstairs, where you’ll have full access to the dinner menu with a more laid back, long-weekend style vibe.

Sunday

Sip some suds on an offbeat waterfront. Sure, Georgetown is great, but there are many other places to peep the Potomac in DC. For a raucous good time, head to Cantina Marina on the Wharf. If you’re looking to keep it classy, try Osteria Morini in Navy Yard.
Celebrate anything at 1789. Cheers to a successful summer? A great hair day? Whatever the occasion, celebrate it at 1789 while they’re still offering their summer special of 3 courses for $48.

Monday

Go for a hike. Rock Creek Park. Theodore Roosevelt Island. Billy Goat. Great Falls Park in Virginia. Scott’s Run Nature Preserve. Pick your poison and sweat it out.

DC looks the perfect city to spend a long weekend! There’s so much to do.
We’re basically playing everything by ear this weekend. The rain won’t let up so I don’t want to make concrete plans. Hopefully some good is in the near future though!
    Have a great LONG weekend!

Gosh, I hope it clears up at least in some longer patches. Are you supposed to have any severe weather? Stay safe and have a great long weekend as well!!
