Shaw Crawl – Last Stop, Columbia Room

Washington DCPosted by Kacy

19 May

Any good night out in Shaw ends with a proper night-cap. Options for a well-mixed cocktail are plentiful in the area, including our previous Shaw Crawl stops The Dabney and Convivial. but we had our minds set on another Blagden Alley hot spot, Columbia Room.
Columbia Room punch garden menuThings did not really work out in our favor for this stop. It was freezing cold (in the middle of bloody May) but the only seating available was in the Punch Garden, their adorable upstairs patio.

girl time at Columbia RoomWe had every intention of ordering one of the inventive Columbia Room cocktails, but on a cold night nothing does the trick for me like red wine. Tom did take advantage of the cocktail list and ordered the Manhattan Project #1 with rye whiskey, “Shoot One” phosphate and lime. He’s picky with cocktails, but this one was right up his alley and the kick from the whiskey was nice and warming as well. I have my eye on the Steady Cocktail for my next visit, and would love to make a reservation in the tasting room for a special occasion in the future.
Along with our drinks, we had a delicious meat and cheese plate in lieu of a sweet dessert.
Columbia Room cheese plateWe ordered the cheese plate, but subbed the fennel salami with fennel salad and hazelnuts for the burrata. I was pleased that they were willing to accommodate this request and not force us into ordering both the meet and cheese plate to get what we wanted as some upscale establishments might have done. Also on the board, goat cheese with grenadine caramelized onions on toast and Meadow Creek “Grayson” grilled cheese with tomato jam.
Despite the cold and wind, Columbia Room was a perfect conclusion to an idyllic night of food and fun. I think I managed to get my Shaw fix, for now, but I’m sure I’ll hear the siren song and return sooner rather than later.
