Bar Elena: Skee Ball & Spaghetti Sandwiches

Food & Drink· Restaurant Reviews· Washington DCPosted by Kacy

15 Nov

The H Street Corridor has a new watering hole, and it’s one you definitely need to check out. If you’re looking for fun, food and of course, delicious drinks – Bar Elena is about to become your go-to spot.

Bar Elena DCThe Space

Located in the former Boundary Road space, this bar is funky, eclectic, warm and welcoming all at the same time. Up front you’ll find elegant seating for full-service dining. For a more casual experience, pull up a seat at the bar and then head to the back of the restaurant for a game of skee ball or pinball.

The Food

Don’t expect boring bar food here. The menu is diverse and tempting. You’ll find inventive small plates, a selection of raw seafood and heartier main dishes and sandwiches. Go a little fancier with a tuna crudo or shellfish stew, or keep it low-key with nachos or – my new favorite food – the spaghetti sandwich. Below is just a taste of what Chef Adam Stein is creating in the kitchen.

As I said, I was particularly captivated by the spaghetti sandwich. This gem is a carb-lover’s dream come true. Chef Stein modeled the sandwich after one of his favorite childhood meals, spaghetti stuffed into a buttered roll. The result is absolutely delicious. I love food that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The Drinks

You’ll need something to quench your thirst after all that delicious food. The bar program at Bar Elena is outstanding. The Best Damn Negroni Ever lives up to its name. Tom got over his distaste for white whiskey after sipping the Nights in White ‘Hattan. In addition to cocktails, they’ve got a great lineup of local beers and a wonderful selection of unusual wines. Whatever your drink of choice, you’ll find a perfect glass at Bar Elena.
Thanks to Bar Elena for hosting us for a preview of their new menu. All opinions are our own.
