Snapshot: A Sunny Day Getaway to Baltimore

MarylandPosted by Kacy

23 Nov

I don’t know how other bloggers with full-time jobs do it. I’m constantly behind on posting and never quite get everything I want to do accomplished. But, I love this space and the outlet it provides so I will continue to try to do better. Perhaps a New Years’ Resolution is in the works? Until then, here is a very brief look at our recent visit to Baltimore.
We made the trip at the end of October, when the leaves were just barely beginning to turn and the weather was still unseasonably warm. It was one of those days where we’d planned to work out and be productive, but the weather was just too damn nice and all of a sudden we found ourselves in the car heading north. This is why I love the East Coast so much – there’s always a nearby adventure for those spontaneous travel moments.
Baltimore Canton waterfrontIt’s a shame we don’t get up to Baltimore more often. It’s a lovely city with a distinctly different (and cheaper!) vibe than DC. I love being a Washingtonian, but certainly feel charmed by Charm City every time we go.
BaltimoreWe really didn’t have much agenda for this trip, other than a change of scenery. After a delicious brunch at The Boathouse Canton, we simply wandered around for a while.
Suspect! Baltimore

old dock BaltimoreAfter walking our feet sore, we hit the road for one last stop. Union Craft Brewing makes one of my go-to sour beers, so naturally we stopped in to see what else they were brewing.

I had The Blodgengüch sour vienna lager and Tom enjoyed a Moon Unit IPA, both collaborations with other breweries in the area and not available in stores. We also picked up a couple of six packs to go. Although I prefer wine over beer in a big way, I always have a good time checking out local craft breweries and supporting small businesses.
We’d originally planned to head to nearby Woodberry Kitchen or La Cuchara afterward, but failed to check their hours and arrived when they were closed. I’ve only heard good things about both restaurants, so I’ve decided another trip to Baltimore is definitely in order soon.
Tell me – what are some things I must do the next time I’m in Charm City? Coffee shops? Museums? Your favorite dive bar? I want to know about them all!

I didn’t make it down to Baltimore this month as planned. But, Union Craft Brewing was definitely on my “to do” list! I’ll eventually make it down as I have extended family there. Definitely need to check out a good seafood restaurant!
As for yourself, you should have looked into a Baltimore Ravens game while you were there. Or did you and tickets were just too pricey?
And there is that fort that inspired the “Star Spangled Banner.” Perhaps you two can make this an Independence Day Weekend trip next year if you don’t have any other concrete plans by then?

I’ve never been to an NFL game, though it is a goal of mine. We’ve been meaning to head to New York for a Jets game – that’s Tom’s team. Tickets are definitely pricy and we never end up doing it. Maybe next year!
