I am lucky that my job affords me the luxury of often having a social life during the week, as well as on the weekend. Unfortunately, this was not one of those weeks. Between deadlines at my “real” job, deadlines at my part-time job, deadlines for my freelance gig and the necessary sleeping and eating that must be done, there wasn’t time for much else.
So by the time Friday rolled around, I was ready to celebrate with a full belly. Popular Connecticut burger joint, b Burger Bar, opened a location in Penn Quarter recently and I’ve been itching to check it out.
B is a sit down restaurant specializing in all the B’s – beef, burgers, bourbon, beer. The space was cozy and chic and the menu extensive. Along with burgers they have several salads (Tom and I shared the chopped salad, which was quite tasty), appetizers like seasonal loaded tots and big plates featuring Shepard’s pie and not-you-grandma’s pot roast. But since it was our first visit, we stuck to burgers. Tom had the blue cheese burger with caramelized onions, bleu cheese and bourbon barbecue sauce while I opted the squealer, a pork and beef patty with lettuce, pickles, cheese and the burger trinity: mayo, mustard and ketchup. I need all three. I am a condiment glutton and I care not who knows it.
B also has a smorgasbord (yes, a smorgasbord) of sides to choose from, which turned out to be a rather hard decision to make. After much discussion we settled on the disco fries (above) covered in beef gravy and cheese sauce and the green fries, flash fried green beans.
We both really enjoyed our burgers, with nice fat juicy patties and fresh toppings, I had no complaints. Located right next to the U.S. Navy Memorial and the Navy Archives, b DC Burger Bar is a great affordable option for tourists and locals alike.
All fries should be disco fries.
I’m so jealous of your access to such fun explorations. Saturday we did nothing and Sunday my mom came over and walked the dogs with me while Brandon watched shitty footballs games during the day. There were no disco fries to be found.
My pants would like to tell you that the lack of disco fries was probably a blessing in disguise 🙂
