Art After 5: Thursdays at the OKC Museum of Art

Oklahoma CityPosted by Kacy

28 Jun

I don’t know much about art, but I do know that Oklahoma City has it in spades. From street art to fine art, and everything in between. We’ve already declared our love for the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, but now that summer is here we’ve got even more reasons to spend time at one of the most cultured spots in town. Thursday is the best day to head to the art museum for Art After 5, where entrance is a mere $5 after… you guessed it, 5 p.m.

We stopped by last week to see what it was all about, heading right up to the roof for a glass of wine and views of downtown. But no stop to the museum is complete without touring the galleries.

The MOA has excellent rotating exhibits, so you won’t get bored going back over and over again. The current exhibit, Isabelle de Borchgrave: Fashioning Art from Paper, may be one of my favorites yet. Isabelle de Borchgrave is an innovative Belgian artist who, after the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum, was inspired to use a new medium  – trompe l’œil – to create four incredible installations of all-paper costumes that reflect 300 years of fashion history. The detail and intricacy in her work is astounding. All four collections – plus a series of  kaftans highlighting Silk Road textiles – are at the OKC MOA now through September 9th, 2018.

We did just that last Thursday, and highly recommend it! But if you can’t make those dates, just be sure to swing by the museum before the exhibit closes out to check out these amazing works of art!
